I work in illumination design for the lithography division of
Carl Zeiss SMT in
Oberkochen,
Germany. Together with their partner ASML,
they are the current world market leader for supplying machines for
semiconductor lithography.
The challenge in illumination design is to construct an optics that will transfer
light from a laser or a high-power lamp into an extremely homogeneous light
distribution - even if
suddenly one side of the light source should stop to operate properly.

I had a quite diverse academic career, not only geographically. Focus
had always been the application of computer simulations to solve
problems. While I no longer persue any active research, I still might be
able to help you if you should have any questions about my previous work.
